Service-Learning at CCNY—Get Involved!

The Powell Center offers many ways to get involved in service-learning or to strengthen your existing programming.  Faculty from more than 15 disciplines, from biomedical engineering to architecture, have taken part in the CCNY service-learning program. Our faculty fellows receive curriculum development assistance and financial support. We also provide support to other faculty members.

Ways to Get Started:

A Powell Center service-learning workshop at the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning  1. Attend a service-learning 101 workshop
  • Learn more about how service-learning is distinguished from other forms of experiential learning (volunteering, internships, etc.)
  • Explore benefits for students, faculty, and community partners.
  • Hear about current projects led by your own colleagues at CCNY!
  • Find out how you or your department can qualify for Service-Learning Fellowships and Grants
  • Check with the Center for upcoming workshop dates!

  • Learn about key service-learning best practices & develop concrete course outcomes.
  • Get advice from experienced CCNY faculty and dedicated community partners.
  • Work alongside other faculty committed to integrating service-learning in their curriculum.
  • Receive up to $5,000 for course development activities. More
Applying for a grant.  3. Apply for a project grant
  • Receive up to $1,000 to support projects and professional development.  Possible uses include:
    1. Travel to service-learning conferences,
    2. Supplies for large scale service-learning projects,
    3. Hosting lunches, meetings or events with service-placement supervisors. More

  • Your department or program can receive up to $10,000 to support implementation of s-l into the curriculum. More
